How Bhaar Calc works

Pick a shape, type in the dimensions and length, and choose a material. The weight is volume × density, shown per piece, per metre (or foot) and for your whole order, with an optional cost estimate. The selected material's chemical composition and mechanical properties appear next to the result.

  1. Choose a shape: bars, plates, tubes, angles, channels, beams, spheres, cones and more.
  2. Enter your values: the highlighted fields take dimensions, quantity and price.
  3. Choose a material: steels, stainless, cast iron, aluminium, copper alloys, titanium, nickel alloys and plastics.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the weight of a steel bar or plate?

Weight (kg) = cross-section area (mm²) × length (mm) × density (kg/m³) ÷ 1,000,000,000. For example, a 25 mm round mild-steel bar that is 1 m long weighs about 3.85 kg. Bhaar Calc does this for you for 25+ shapes.

What is the density of steel, aluminium and plastic?

Mild steel is about 7,850 kg/m³, stainless steel 304 about 7,900 kg/m³, aluminium 6061 about 2,700 kg/m³, copper about 8,940 kg/m³, and common plastics range from about 905 kg/m³ (polypropylene) to 2,200 kg/m³ (PTFE).

Can I calculate plastic weight too?

Yes. Choose from ABS, acrylic (PMMA), polycarbonate, nylon, acetal (POM), HDPE, LDPE, PP, PVC, PTFE, PET, PETG, PLA, PEEK, PVDF, polystyrene, UHMW-PE and GFRP/FR4 laminate, or enter a custom density.

Is the calculated weight exact?

It is a theoretical weight based on nominal dimensions and typical density. Real products vary with mill tolerances, corner radii, coatings and alloy chemistry, so allow a small margin when ordering or shipping.

Can I use inches and pounds?

Yes. Switch between Metric (mm, kg) and Imperial (in, lb) at the top of the calculator. Your values convert automatically.

What does Bhaar mean?

Bhaar (भार) means weight in Hindi. Bhaar Calc is a free weight calculator from IRIS Technologies.
